Jan Gehl to Explain How Cities Can Be More Comfortable

On February 21, 2014, Jan Gehl, well-known Danish architect and urban design consultant, will meet the Heads of the Moscow Region’s Architecture and Urban Planning Departments at the Moscow Regional Government House. The event is supported by KROST Concern.

The urban design consultant, a founder of the humanistic approach to urban planning, will be talking about best global practices in social area formation. Mr. Gehl and his company, Gehl Architects, conduct research in cities all over the world; recently, the experts have presented their analysis of social areas in Moscow, which includes recommendations on improving urban quality of life.

The event is to be held as a part of a project aimed at forming the architectural image of the Moscow Region’s cities and upgrading the urban environment.

Jan Gehl is an architect and founder of Gehl Architects – Urban Quality Consultants, an architectural bureau. He has authored the following books: Life between Buildings, New City Spaces, and Cities for People. These books were translated into Russian and published by KROST Concern.

He has worked on enhancing city spaces in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Rotterdam, London, Amman, Muscat, Melbourne, Sydney, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Moscow. Jan Gehl is an honorary member of RIBA, AIA, RAIC and PIA.
